What I Actually Do When My Body's Had Enough Three Wellness Shots I Swear By.

Because coming back isn't the same as pushing forward.

The Pressure

Being sick is one thing. Coming back from it is another.
Most people expect the physical part. The tiredness that lingers a little longer than it should. The appetite that takes a while to find its way back. The first session that feels harder than it has any right to feel.
What catches people off guard is everything else. The mental itch to make up for lost time. The guilt of resting when there are things to do. The strange in-between feeling of being almost yourself but not quite. That particular version of restlessness that only comes from slowing down when you're used to moving.
I've been sitting with all of that this week. And it reminded me that most of what we know about recovery is wrong.
Recovery Is Not a Gap

We treat it like one. Something to move through as efficiently as possible so we can get back to real life.
But recovery is real life. It's an active biological process that your body is working hard to complete whether you give it the right conditions or not. The difference is how long it takes and how fully you come back.
Push too hard too soon and you interrupt that process. The immune system, already depleted, gets asked to deal with physical stress before it's finished repairing. Sleep gets cut short because there's too much to catch up on. Food gets rushed or skipped. Stress levels climb back to normal before the body is ready for normal.
And then people wonder why they don't quite feel right for weeks.
The body has a sequence. Respect it and it moves through recovery efficiently. Override it and it finds ways to make you slow down anyway.
What Actually Helps
The honest answer isn't complicated. It's just not what most people want to hear when they're itching to get back to normal.

Sleep matters more than anything else on this list. Your immune system does its most significant repair work during deep sleep and there's no shortcut around that. Protecting your sleep during recovery is the single highest return thing you can do.

Water keeps everything moving. Your body is actively flushing out what it doesn't need and rebuilding what it does and that process requires more fluid than most people give it. Keep the bottle close.

Food gives your body the raw materials it needs to rebuild. Nothing fancy. Protein, vegetables, whole grains, healthy fats. Eaten regularly even when appetite is a bit unpredictable.

Gentle movement keeps circulation going and supports the lymphatic system without adding stress to a body that's already working overtime. A walk is enough. A swim is great. A full training session can wait.

And the mental load matters more than people realise. Stress hormones suppress immune function directly. Coming back to full capacity mentally before your body is ready physically is one of the most common reasons recovery drags on longer than it needs to. The work will still be there. Give yourself a little more time.
Three Wellness Shots Worth Trying
This week I've been making a daily wellness shot alongside my morning ASEA drink. Small, concentrated, easy to absorb and genuinely useful when your body needs extra support.
The Anti-Inflammatory Shot
Targets inflammation directly using turmeric and ginger, two of the most well researched natural anti-inflammatories available. The addition of apple cider vinegar supports gut health and the black pepper significantly increases how much turmeric your body actually absorbs. Good for the first few days of recovery when inflammation is at its highest.

The Gut Reset Shot
Around 70 percent of your immune system lives in your gut so supporting it during recovery makes more difference than most people realise. Apple cider vinegar helps restore gut bacteria balance, ginger calms digestive inflammation and cinnamon helps regulate blood sugar which often takes a hit when you've been unwell and not eating normally.

The Cellular Recovery Shot
Beetroot supports circulation and oxygen delivery to cells which accelerates the repair process. Particularly useful for that almost back to normal but not quite phase when energy is patchy and your body is doing the final stages of rebuilding. Gives a genuine lift without the caffeine crash.

Something Worth Remembering
Your body is extraordinarily good at recovering. It does it constantly in ways you never notice from things you never even register as stress.
What it needs from you are conditions. Sleep. Water. Real food. Gentle movement. A nervous system that isn't being asked to perform at full capacity before the repair work is done.
That's not doing nothing. That's doing exactly what's needed.
And the patience required to actually do it is probably the hardest part of all.

And if you'd love some support building a wellness routine that works with your body through every season of life, let's have a proper chat.
